Who are the ‘Ibad ur Rahman’ (Slaves of Allah)?

In this Quran verse from Surah Al-Furqan, Allah provides a glimpse of some of the characteristics of His slaves that he calls Ibad-ur-Rahman.

63. And the slaves of the Most Beneficent (Allah) are those who walk on the earth in humility and sedateness, and when the foolish address them (with bad words) they reply back with mild words of gentleness.
64. And those who spend the night before their Lord, prostrate and standing.
65. And those who say: “Our Lord! Avert from us the torment of Hell. Verily! Its torment is ever an inseparable, permanent punishment.”
Quran (Surah Al-Furqan, Verses 63-65)
  • In these verses attention is being drawn to the two patterns of character and life: first of those who had accepted the Message of the Holy Prophet and were following it, and the second of those who persisted in the ways of ignorance.
  • The prominent characteristics of the true Believers are:
  • They walk on the earth with dignity, serenity and humility, not with arrogance and pride. (“Walking humbly” does not mean walking like a weak or sick person, nor does it imply the gait of a hypocrite who walks ostentatiously to show humility or fear of God. According to Traditions, the Holy Prophet himself used to walk with firm, quick steps.)
  • If the ignorant people insult them with bad words, they do not respond likewise, but they forgive and overlook, and say nothing but good words. (This is what the Messenger of Allah did: the more ignorant the people, the more patient he would be.)
  • The true servants of the “Merciful” do not believe in “vengeance”, though they may have to deal with ignorant people who behave rudely and insolently towards them. If they happen to come across such people, they wish them peace and turn away. (The same has been expressed in Surah AI-Qasas: 55, thus:

Why Are You Muslim?

‘Why are you Muslim?’ It may sound like an obvious question, but often many of us don’t have a clear answer to it. I remember being asked this question by my elder brother when I was fourteen years of age, my initial answer was ‘Well, our family is Muslim’, his reply to this made me think, he said, ‘If your family were Hindu or Christian, would you be as well?’. I replied with a strong ‘No, Islam is the truth’, the discussion that followed made me question the basis of my life and changed my life for ever. He triggered me to think about how to prove that Islam is the truth rather than just believing it emotionally or blindly. In fact Allah (swt) has condemned people for imitating their forefathers and adopting their belief without clear evidence.

In the Holy Qur’an, He (swt) says:

“And verily guess is no substitute for the truth.” [TMQ 53:28]

“They have no (certain) knowledge. They follow nothing but conjecture. For surely; they killed him not (‘Isa).” [TMQ 4:157]

"These are nothing but names which you have devised, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their Nafs desire. Even though there has already come to them the Guidance from their Rabb" [TMQ 53:23]

"Do you have Ilm (knowledge) for that which you claim so that you provide us with? You follow nothing but conjecture (Zann)." [TMQ 6:148]

Is It Really for Allah’s Sake?

It is related that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“The greatest fear I have for my community is a lesser form of polytheism… showing off.” (Ahmad)
There is nothing wrong with a believer feeling happy on account of people’s praise. It is only showing off when a person intends to do a good deed for other than God’s sake, so that he or she would not do that deed if no one else was there to see it.
Showing off takes many forms:

Showing off in One’s Faith

This is the most serious kind and it is not a “lesser” form of polytheism. Another word for it is hypocrisy. It is to profess belief to the people while concealing disbelief in one’s heart.

Showing off with One’s Appearance

This is to make oneself appear as if one is engaged in a lot of devotions, like to deliberately cultivate a prostration mark on the forehead or to make one’s lips dry so to make it seem like the lips of a fasting person.
It also includes bowing the head in false humility while walking or keeping disheveled hair to appear ascetic.

Amazing Power of Dua

The dua can change our life, our outlook, and our fate. It is the most potent weapon of a believer.

Once Prophet Muhammad (sal-Allahu-alayhi-wa-sallam) passed by a people who were suffering from some affliction. "Why don't they make dua (prayer) to Allah for protection?" he said. With all the suffering and disasters Muslims are facing in various parts of the world, the question can be directed to all of us today.
It is not that we have forgotten dua completely; we refer to it regularly. But our ideas and practice regarding dua have become distorted. Often it is reduced to the level of a ritual. Generally it is considered when all our efforts have failed --- an act of last resort. It is belittled through actions and sometimes even with words. Is it any wonder that today mostly a mention of dua is meant to indicate the hopelessness of a situation?
What a tragedy, for dua is the most potent weapon of a believer. It can change fate, while no action of ours ever can. It is the essence of ibadah or worship. With it we can never fail; without it we can never succeed. In the proper scheme of things, dua should be the first and the last resort of the believer, with all his plans and actions coming in between.
The most empowering conversation
Dua is conversation with Allah, out Creator, our Lord and Master, the All Knowing, the All Powerful. This act in itself is of extraordinary significance. It is the most uplifting, liberating, empowering, and transforming conversation a person can ever have. We turn to Him because we know that He alone can lift our sufferings and solve our problems. We feel relieved after describing our difficulties to our Creator. We feel empowered after having communicated with the All Mighty. We sense His mercy all around us after talking to the Most Merciful. We get a new commitment to follow His path for that is the only path for success. We feel blessed with each such commitment.
Our first and last action
In every difficulty our first action is dua, as is our last. We ask Allah to show us the way to handle that difficulty; we seek His help in following the path He shows to us; we seek His aid in making our efforts successful. When we fall sick, we know that we cannot find the right doctor without His Will; that the best doctor may not be able to diagnose our condition without His Command; that the best treatment plan will not succeed without His Permission. We make dua for all of these. We make dua before we seek medical help, while we are receiving it and after it has been delivered.

Tips for New Muslims on How to Read the Quran

Salaam and welcome to Islam.
You didn’t explain what is your particular problem with reading the Quran? Is it that you can’t find a good translation in Dutch or English, or that you don’t understand what you read? Or maybe you can’t find the time to read on regular basis?
I agree with you that it is very important for Muslims to read The Quran and get a better understanding of its message. This is how we can learn and practice the basic concepts of Islam as a balanced way of life. Reading the Quran also shows us the universe in a new light: we learn many amazing facts about ourselves and the different creatures of God, the environmental balance and our role in it, human behavior and relations, financial and economic concepts, and much, much more.
In other words, when we read the Quran we must free our minds and open up our souls to get a much deeper understanding of our world and ourselves. It’s not just a book of worship and religious rules; it’s a book of wisdom that will change our lives.
Here are some general guidelines, and please feel free to write again and give us your impressions and feedback:
1- Find a good translation in a language you understand well.
Always bear in mind that reading the Quran in any other language than its original Arabic is only an approximation of the meaning and not the exact text, simply because it is impossible to reproduce the same literary experience in any other language.
Dr. Mostafa Mahmoud, a philosopher and scientist, describes the Quranic style: “There is no end rhyme, nor is the Quran written in verse. The prose, however, is so unique that one can detect a law of verbal architecture that governs its internal music pattern. It remains impossible to imitate the structural and rhetorical brilliance of the Quran”.
2- Listen to a recitation of the Quran from an experienced reader, even if you don’t understand.
It’s important to get the feeling of the original text, and it’s mesmerizing to hear it.
3- If this is your first encounter with the Quran, plan two consecutive readings:
A first quick and general reading to get the big ideas, then a second more through reading to delve deeper and get a much closer look at the details.
4- Start your first reading with a neutral frame of mind.
Approaching the Quran with a pre-conceived perception will only slow your progress and color your understanding of its true message, resulting in a confused impression. Consult your own open heart and mind in the first reading, and not other people’s opinions, whether from classical books or from the mainstream media.  The Quran reaches straight into your soul if you let it, so please allow yourself the experience.
Dr. Mohamed Enani writes: “The Quran speaks the language of the human heart wherever humans are found and whatever the age they live in; it is a universal language rooted deep in a human’s natural constitution”.

Mulakan dengan Bismillah

Kita dituntut setiap kali ingin memulakan sesuatu aktiviti dengan menyebut bismillah. Atau lebih lengkap lagi بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم . Lafaz atau kalimah bismillah ini sangat penting jika mahukan apa yang kita lakukan itu dinilai oleh Allah sebagai ibadah di sisi-Nya. Lafaz ini juga membezakan perbuatan yang disukai oleh Allah dan perbuatan yang disukai oleh syaitan.

Memulakan setiap tindakan dengan menyebut kalimah Allah, secara rasminyakita telah 'bersama-sama' dengan Allah bagi mendapatkan pertolongan dan redha daripada-Nya. Ia seperti "password" untuk mendapat keredhaan Allah. Syaitan sangat tidak menyukai pekerjaan yang dimulai dengan kalimah ini. Usahanya untuk menghasut dan mengganggu sudah terhalang.

Ucapan bismillah tidak boleh digunakan sewenang-wenang. Ia langsung tidak layak dilafazkan jika seseorang itu mahu berbuat maksiat. Bahan jika menempelkan dengan perkara yang berunsur syubhah sekalipun. Berdosa besar hukumnya jika perkataan bismillah dijadikan pelaris untuk amalan ilmu songsang demi kesenangan kehidupan dunia.

Sabda Nabi s.a.w., "Apabila seseorang lelaki memasuki rumahnya, lalu dia menyebut Allah (membaca bismillah) ketika masuk dan ketika makan, maka berkata syaitan. 'Tiadalah peluang aku bermalam dengan kamu dan tiadalah pada malam kamu.' Dan apabila seseorang masuk ke rumahnya, maka di tidak menyebut Allah ketika memasukinya, maka berkata syaitan, ' Aku akan bermalam dengan kamu.'"

A good Deed for the Day: Every Minute counts - What Can You Do In 1 Minute?

1. In one minute you can recite Surah al-Faatihah 3 times, reciting rapidly (yet clearly) - silently or aloud. The hasanahs one can gain, not to mention, the right Guidance from ALLAH, are incomparable rewards to anything we can get from this material world.


2. In one minute you can recite Surah al-Ikhlas (Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad) 20 times, reciting rapidly (yet clearly) - silently or aloud. Reciting it once is equivalent to one-third of The Qur’an. The rewards for this are well-known.

3. You can read one page of The Qur’an in one minute.


4. You can memorize a short Aayah from The Qur’an in one minute.


5. In one minute you can say Laa ilaaha ill-Allah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer (There is no god except ALLAH (SWT) alone with no partner; to Him be dominion and praise, and He is Able to do all things) – 20 times.


6. In one minute you can say Subhaan Allaahi wa bi hamdihi (Glory and praisebe to ALLAH (SWT)) 100 times to ask for forgiveness from ALLAH (SWT).


7. In one minute you can say Subhaan Allahi wa bi hamdihi Subhaan Allaahil-‘Azeem (Glory and praise be to ALLAH (SWT), glory be to ALLAH (SWT) the Almighty) 50 times. These are two phrases which are light on the lips, heavy in the balance and beloved to the Most Merciful, as was narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim.

8. The Prophet (peace and blessings of ALLAH (SWT) be upon him) said:”When I say ‘Subhaan-Allaah wa’l-hamdu Lillah, wa laa ilaah ill-Allaah,wa-allahu akbar (Glory be to ALLAH (SWT), praise be to ALLAH (SWT), there is no god except ALLAH (SWT), and ALLAH (SWT) is Most Great)’, this is more beloved to me than all that the sun rises upon.” (Narrated in Muslim). In one minute, you can say all of these words more than 18 times. These words are the most beloved words to ALLAH (SWT), the best of words, and they weigh heavily in the balance of good deeds, as was narrated in the saheeh ahaadeeth.

9. In one minute you can say, Laa hawla wa laa quwwata illa Billaah (ther eis no strength and no power except with ALLAH (SWT)) more than 40 times. This is one of the treasures of Paradise, as was narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim.They are a means of putting up with difficulties and of aiming to achieve great things.

10. In one minute you can say Laa ilaaha ill-ALLAH (SWT) approximately 50 times. This is the greatest word, for it is the word of Tawheed, the good word,the word that stands firm.

11. In one minute you can say Subhaan ALLAH (SWT) wa bi hamdih, ‘adadakhalqihi, wa ridaa nafsihi, wazinata ‘arshihi, wa midaada kalimaatihi (Glory and praise be to ALLAH (SWT), as much as the number of His creation, as much as pleases Him, as much as the weight of His Throne and as much as the ink of His words) more than 15 times.

12. In one minute you can seek the forgiveness of ALLAH (SWT) several times by saying “Astaghfir-ALLAH (SWT) (I seek the forgiveness of ALLAH (SWT)).The virtues of seeking forgiveness are no secret, for it is the means of attaining forgiveness and entering Paradise, and it is the means of being granted a good life, increasing one’s strength, warding off disasters, making things easier, bringing rain and increasing one’s wealth and children.


13. You can say a few brief, productive and concise words in one minute to someone, and ALLAH (SWT) may bring about some good through them that you could never imagine.

14. In one minute you can send blessings on the Prophet (peace and blessings of ALLAH (SWT) be upon him) 50 times by saying Sall-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam(May ALLAH (SWT) bless him and grant him peace).


15. In one minute you can motivate your heart to give thanks to ALLAH (SWT),to love Him, to fear Him, to put hope in Him, to long for Him, and thus travel through the stages of ‘uboodiyyah (total enslavement to ALLAH (SWT)). You could do this when you are lying on your bed or walking in the street.

16. In one minute you can read more than two pages of a useful book that is easy to understand.


17. In one minute you can uphold the ties of kinship by calling a relative on the phone.


18. You can raise your hands and recite any du’aa’ you wish from the booksof du’aa’, in one minute.


19. You can say salaams to and shake hands with a number of people in one minute.

20. You can forbid an evil action in one minute.

21. You can enjoin something good in one minute.


22. You can offer sincere advice to a brother in one minute.

23. You can console someone who is depressed in one minute.


24. You can remove something harmful from the road in one minute.

25. Making the most of one minute motivates you to make the most of other periods that would otherwise be wasted.

"Ya Allah, ampunilah dosa mulut dan lidahku ini".

2. Ketika membasuh muka, berniatlah kamu dengan,
"Ya Allah, putihkanlah >mukaku di akhirat kelak, Janganlah Kau hitamkan muka ku ini".

3. Ketika membasuh tangan kanan, berniatlah kamu dengan,
"Ya Allah, berikanlah hisab-hisab ku di tangan kanan ku ini".

4. Ketika membasuh tangan kiri, berniatlah kamu dengan,
"Ya Allah, janganlah Kau berikan hisab-hisab ku di tangan kiri ku ini".

5. Ketika membasuh kepala, berniatlah kamu dengan,
"Ya Allah, lindunglah daku dari terik matahari di padang Masyar dengan Arasy Mu".

6. Ketika membasuh telinga, berniatlah kamu dengan,
"Ya Allah, ampunilah dosa telinga ku ini".

7. Ketika membasuh kaki kanan, berniatlah kamu dengan.
"Ya Allah, permudahkanlah aku melintasi titian Siratul Mustaqqim".

8. Ketika membasuh kaki kiri, berniatlah kamu dengan,
"Ya Allah, bawakanlah daku pergi ke masjid-masjid, surau-surau dan bukan tempat-tempat maksiat"

IBADAH HAJI NYATA MAMPU MEMBERIKAN SERIBU SATU PENDIDIKAN SERTA PENGAJARAN. 1 HAJI MENGAJAR ERTI TANGGUNGJAWAB.

Haji wajib ditunaikan bagi mereka yang mampu. Dan sudah pasti sekalian umat Islam baik yang kaya mahupun miskin pasti memasang hajat menjejakkan kaki ke tanah haram ini. Oleh demikian, rukun Islam kelima ini pasti akan membuatkan kita berusaha untuk mencari rezeki yang lebih agar hasrat untuk melengkapkan tanggungjawab sebagai seorang Muslim tercapai.

2 HAJI MENGUATKAN MENTAL, FIZIKAL DAN ROHANI.

Haji merupakan kembara rohani yang begitu mencabar. Para jemaah perlu sentiasa memusatkan fokus mereka terhadap ibadah yang dikerjakan dalam usaha meraih haji yang mabrur. Selain itu, ibadah ini turut menjadi wadah utama dalam membersihkan. Ibadah haji memerlukan kita untuk memiliki fizikal yang kuat dan cergas kerana kita akan menggunakan tenaga yang banyak untuk bergerak dan berjalan. Keupayaan untuk menanggung rindu lantaran berjauhan dengan keluarga serta hal-hal dunia nyata akan melatih kekentalan emosi kita. Dek kerana ini, benteng diri kita untuk menentang segala perkara yang menuntut ketabahan mampu diperkasakan.
