Jihad is the apex of Islam and the positions of those who perform it are the loftiest positions in Paradise, and likewise they have a high status in the life of this world.

We all should take in the example of Muhammad, Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, for he was at the highest peak of it, for he mastered all types of it:
“He struggled (Jihad) with his heart and soul, by calling (to Islam) and proclaiming (the truth), with the sword and the spear. His hours were devoted to Jihad, which is why he was the best in all the worlds in remembering Allah and the greatest in Allah’s Estimation.”
Allah, Most High commanded him to perform Jihad from the time He sent him, for He said:
“So do not obey the disbelievers, and strive against them with the Qur'an a great striving." Qur'an, 25:52

Jihad is on four levels:

    1. Jihad of the self, and this is also on four levels:

”The Mujahid is one who performs Jihad of his self in obedience to Allah.” [1]
  • The First: That he struggles against it by learning guidance.
  • The Second: That he struggles against it by acting upon that guidance once he has learnt it.
  • The Third: That he struggles against it by calling people to the guidance, for if he does not, he will be one of those who hides what Allāh has revealed.
  • The Fourth: That he does so with patient perseverance in the face of the hardships which afflict one who is calling to Allāh and that he bears all of this for Allāh.
If all of these fours are fulfilled, he will be one of the Rabbaniyyūn[2], for the Salaf are in agreement that a scholar is not one of the Rabbaniyyūn until he knows the truth, acts upon it and teaches it.

I Want to Fight My Soul, so What is the Way?
By Nawwâl Bin Abdullâh
Adapted with slight modifications from a translation by Abû Iyâd Amjad Rafîq
All Praise is due to Allâh the Rabb of all the Worlds and prayers and peace upon the best creation of Allâh.
To proceed:
We hear many complaints from the people. Most of their complaints are related to their souls, which command them what is evil. They also complain about the evil of their actions. One of them says:
Indeed I have been put to trial with four, they did not afflict me
Except due to my misfortune and wretchedness
Iblîs, the world, the soul and the desire
How will this end when they are my enemies, all of them
So we find some of them saying ‘I have tried many times, repeatedly, to turn my soul away from committing these specific acts of disobedience but my efforts have failed.’
Another one says: ‘I tried to get my soul to perform acts of obedience (to Allâh), good and righteous deeds but I am not able to remain firm upon them, I leave them so quickly.’
And we hear a third one say: ‘I have repented from many evil actions and promised myself that I would not commit them again. However after the passing of time and being occupied much it did not take long before I returned to them. In fact I fell into others and increased in them.’
If we were to look at the condition of these people we would realise that among the reasons for their not being able to dominate and control their souls and not being able to remain firm upon what they have promised themselves is their lack of striving against their souls. In fact they have left the fetters and reins for the soul so that it leads them and plays with them however it wills. The soul is such that if it is not fought against and controlled it commands its possessor to commit evil and obscene deeds. These people, because they have not fought against their souls and controlled them in that which Allâh loves and is pleased with, are not able to remain constant in their (good) actions. For this reason it is necessary for them to control their souls for Allâh's pleasure and His obedience. Not that it should control them and as a result destroy them
It is vital that a person launches a war against his soul. One which is not haphazard or aimless but rather a firm and determined one in which he uses the weapons of faith (îmân), sincerity to Allâh (ikhlâs), patience (sabr) and supplication (du‘â). He uses them until he is able to overcome this mischievous enemy which is concealed between the two sides of his body [the soul, which commands the evil]. As a result he tames and pacifies it and makes it obedient, humble and submissive to the command of Allâh.
For this reason we find that Ibn al-Qayyim (rh) says: ‘Since the jihâd against the enemies of Allâh outwardly (i.e. physically) is a branch of the jihâd of the servant against his own soul for the sake of Allâh...’
The jihâd that is greater and mightier than the jihâd against the disbelievers and pagans is the jihâd of a person against his own soul for the sake of Allâh, just as the Messenger of Allâh said: “The Mujâhid is the one who struggles against his own soul in Allâh’s obedience.” [Tirmidhî who said it was Hasan Sahîh and Al-Albânî said: ‘Its isnâd is good’]
And when a person is not able to struggle against his own soul and overcome it in that which Allâh loves, he will not be able to fight against the external enemy, nor overcome it. How can he, when he is defeated and weak, both mentally and spiritually, and cannot even gain control of his own feeble soul?
Before entering into the discussion of how to fight against the soul it is necessary to mention a little section about the soul and its nature. Then we shall mention the cure for the soul and the way to purify it from its desires and lusts, if Allâh wills.

Salahuddin dibesarkan sama seperti anak-anak Kurdish biasa.

Why are we tested?
Allah subhanahu wa ta`la, exalted and free from imperfection is He, states that every man and woman will be tested with difficulties, hardship and loss in life. Allah tests us for the following reasons:

  1. To distinguish between those who sincerely believe in Allah and those who don't.
  2. "Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: 'We believe and we will not be tested'?" (Qur'an, Al-Ankabut, 29:2)
  3. To encourage mankind to strive to do good deeds.
  4. "Who has created death and life that He may test who is best in deed." (Qur'an, Al-Mulk 67:2)
  5. To purify the soul and expiate sins.
  6. "Whatever trouble, illness, anxiety, grief, pain and sorrow afflict a Muslim, even if it is the pricking of a thorn - Allah removes some of his sins because of it." (Narrated by Abu Sa`eed al-Khudri, Bukhari and Muslim)
  7. To distinguish between those who believe in the Hereafter (akhirah) and those who do not.
  8. "...We might test him who believes in the Hereafter from him who is in doubt concerning it: and the Lord watches over all things (All-Knower of everything i.e. He keeps record of each and every person as regards to deeds and then He will reward them accordingly.)" (Qur'an, Saba 34:21)
  9. For believers to earn the reward of Paradise (Jannah), if they remain patient and faithful to Allah throughout adversity.
  10. "Did you think that you would enter Paradise without Allah testing those of you who fought hard in His cause and (also) test those who are as-Sabireen (the patient ones)?" (Qur'an, Al-`Imran 3:142)
Tests for Believers and Non-Believers
As mentioned before Allah subhanahu wa ta`la tests his creation to distinguish between those who have faith and those who do not. The stronger they are in faith, the more He will test them. Although this may seem unfair, Allah is never unjust.

The more He tests the believers, the more He will reward them in return. The opportunities to earn the rewards of Allah are equal for both men and women. However, the rewards for believers and non-believers (or disbelievers) are quite different. Rewards for non-believers are only awarded in this life, whereas the rewards for believers are rewarded in this life and in the Hereafter (akhirah).

The life often feels like a prison to the true believer because of all the Islamic restrictions, sacrifices, and severe hardships he has to endure. His life is spent in constant struggle between his own wanton desires and his moral conscience. However, Allah is aware of all his efforts and self-sacrifice and will either rewards for it in this life or in the Hereafter (or both). Every times a believer makes a sacrifice for Allah's sake, he sins will be expiated. A good deed will be written for him and its reward multiplied hundreds of times. Allah provides incentives such as these to encourage us to strive harder and make more and more sacrifices in our lives.

If a person embraces Islam sincerely, then Allah shall forgive all his past sins, and after that starts the settlement of accounts: the reward of his good deeds will be ten times to several hundred times for each good deed, and an evil deed will be recorded as it is, unless Allah forgives it too out of His Mercy.
Worship consists of three levels of belief and striving:
  1. Islam - total submission and obedience to Allah.
  2. Imaan - true faith consisting of belief in the heart, speech of the tongue and action of the limbs.
  3. Ihsaan - perfection of worship, doing good deeds as though you see Allah, and if you cannot achieve this feeling or attitude then you must remember that He sees you.

Every believer should try to live his life according to these basic levels of worship.

Green Tea

- by Syihabudin Ahmad -

Abu Hurairah menyampaikan sabda Rasulullah s.a.w. :
