Green Tea

- by Asma bint Shameem -

"What the *******!"
"Hey you, ******, how are you?" "Where in the *******have you been?"
If you listen to the conversation of the average Muslim youth talking to each other, unfortunately this is what you will hear.......expletives, bad words and cusses. In fact, foul language is often heard as part of their everyday life at school, universities and work place.
What's worse is that they use these words without thinking..... without remorse and without even realizing that these words are obscene, filthy or repulsive.... using 'four letter words' in every sentence and in every conversation.
Using the words 'hell' and calling each other 'dog' and 'gay' like it's nothing.
And these are some of the more 'decent' words.
There are other, much worse words that are totally unmentionable. May Allaah protect us.
These people, like their non-Muslim peers, seem to be completely desensitized to the use of foul and offensive words, including many that make others cringe with shame and embarrassment.
Yet, when you reprimand them for using such language, what do they say?
"O come on! This is how everyone talks!" or "This is how I 'express' myself. or "We don't mean it in a bad way, we're just joking around with each other!"
Subhaan Allaah! Calling each other bad names and using foul language!
Since when did that become a 'joke'? Since when did cussing become part of a Muslim's vocabulary?

Abu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, reported: “I heard the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, saying: “A person utters a word thoughtlessly (i.e., without thinking about whether it is good or evil) and as a result, will plummet into the fire of Hell deeper than the distance between the east and the west.” [Al-Bukhaari & Muslim]
Abu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, reported that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: “A man may utter a word pleasing to Allaah without considering it of any significance, but for which Allaah elevates his ranks (in Paradise); another one may speak a word displeasing to Allaah without considering it of any importance, but for which he would be plummeted into Hell.” [Al-Bukhaari]
Abu ‘Abdur-Rahmaan Bilaal bin Al-Haarith Al-Muzani, may Allaah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: “A man may speak a good word without knowing its worth, for which Allaah records for him His good pleasure until the Day he will meet Him; another man may utter an evil word without realising its importance, for which Allaah records for him His displeasure until the Day he will meet Him.” [Maalik & At-Tirmithi]
When the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam was talking to Mu’aath, may Allaah be pleased with him, he told him: “The root (i.e. foundation) of this matter is Islaam, its pillar (mainstay) is the prayer and its apex is Jihaad (fighting in the cause of Allaah).” Then he sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam asked: “Shall I tell you of that which holds together all these things?” Mu’aath, may Allaah be pleased with him, said: “Yes, O Messenger of Allaah!” So he sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam held his tongue between his fingers, and said: “Restrain this.” Mu’aath, may Allaah be pleased with him, asked: “O Messenger of Allaah! Will we really be held to account for what we say?” The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam exclaimed: “May your mother lose you! Most people will be thrown on their faces into the Hellfire on account of their tongues.” [Ahmad & At-Tirmithi]
Ibn Mas’ood, may Allaah be pleased with him: “That which requires imprisonment the most is one’s tongue.”
`Adiyy bin Haatim, may Allaah be pleased with him, reported the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam as saying: “Allaah will surely speak to every one of you without an interpreter. He (i.e., the one being spoken to) will look to his right and see nothing but (deeds) which he had done, and will look to his left and see nothing but (deeds) which he had done. Then he will look in front of him and will find nothing except the Hellfire facing him. So protect (yourselves) from the Fire, even if by giving in charity half a date, and if you cannot find that, then with a kind word.” [Al-Bukhaari & Muslim]
Green Tea
- by Br. Isa Al-Bosnee -

Humans have always been social creatures and in need of friends and companions. Much of our lives is spent in interaction with others. For us Muslims who are living in a society where we are clearly a minority, the issue of choosing the right companions is essential for preserving our Deen. Befriending righteous and virtuous Muslims is an essential means for staying on the Straight Path. Strong individuals, on the other hand, are the core of a strong community, something that Muslims should always strive for.

We all know that we were created for a specific purpose and that Allah the Most High has given us life in order to test us. None of us will deny that we are here for a relatively short period of time and that we shall meet Allah (swt) one Day. Once we know our purpose and our goal, we should seek ways to achieve them so as to benefit our own selves. All of us believe that Allah has sent us a Messenger (saws) and revealed to us the Qur’an, the Best Speech.

In an authentic Hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (saws) said: “A person is likely to follow the faith of his friend, so look whom you befriend.” (1).

The person most noble in character and dealings with fellow humans gave us a very clear message and advice in regard to friendship. We should choose the friend that is satisfied with our Deen and avoid the friend that is displeased with it. Whoever we see and are pleased with his Deen, we should befriend him and whoever we are displeased with his Deen and his manners, we ought to avoid him. There is no good in the companion who does not wish for us (from good) what he wishes for himself. There is also no good in the companion who wishes for us what he wishes for himself, if what he likes for his own soul is leading him towards destruction and Hellfire.
The bases for the actions of those who follow the evil ways are corrupt; their actions are built upon misguidance and deviation. Their deeds are worthless to them as Allah (swt) said: “And We will proceed to what they have done of deeds, so We shall render them to scattered floating dust.” Qur’an 25:23

Their actions, even if we regard them as righteous and noble are of no value to them, so how can they be of benefit to us? Friends are those who feel for their companions, in both happy and sad moments. If we share our feelings with the wrong-doers whose actions are worthless and based on corruption, then we are following the same ways and standards as they are. Affection which results from that friendship leads to love and closeness to other than the righteous believers, and this may even lead to avoiding those who are on the Straight Way. Mixing with followers of any way other than that of the Guidance also results in a change in one’s behavior, morals and conduct.

Green Tea
By the Noble Scholar, Imaam ’Abdul-’Azeez Ibn Baaz (d.1420H) -

From the necessary etiquette of the caller to Allaah. The noble Scholar, Ibn Baaz explains the importance of sincerity, mildness, knowledge and gentleness.
So a wrongdoer, who opposes the da’wah with evil and enmity and seeks to cause harm, is to be dealt with in a different manner. If possible such a person should be imprisoned, or something similar to that - depending upon the nature of his to the da’wah.
The etiquettes, manners and characteristics necessary for the du’aat (callers to Islaam) has been duly explained by Allaah - the Mighty and Majestic - in many aayaat and in many different places in the Noble Qur‘aan. And from those necessary etiquettes are:

Every Muslim is aware of the sacredness of the Houses of Allah. The Masjid was from the first matters of importance that the Prophet Mohammed (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) attended to upon his arrival in Madinah. It is the place where the Muslims (males) meet on a daily basis to establish the second pillar of the religion of Islam. It is the place where knowledge and wisdom is disbursed and spread from. It is the place where the Muslims receive their weekly reminders (Friday sermons) concerning their obligations to Allah, to themselves, to their families, and to the rest of creation.
The Houses of Allah contain all the above mentioned merits and endless more. With this being the case, we felt the need to remind ourselves and our brothers and sisters in Islam of some of the etiquettes and rulings pertaining to attending the Masjid (Mosque). We should keep in mind, they are the Houses of Allah, and although He -The Mighty and Majestic – is far above dwelling in them, rather, they are built and constructed for the sole purpose of worshipping Him, and therefore they should be treated with due respect and reverence by those attending them.
With this purpose in mind we have compiled this brief, summarized reminder related to some of the etiquettes for attending the Houses of Allah. We pray and hope this humble work benefits the Muslim communities and serves as a reminder for those who have possibly forgotten the sacredness of the Masjid.
